Dental Implants for Ryde, North Ryde, Gladesville & Drummoyne Locals

Implants are one of the most permanent treatments available in the field of restorative dentistry, and are often used as a replacement for missing teeth. The process involves surgically inserting a titanium screw into the jawbone as a foundation and securely fusing and a prosthetic attachment on top. The result looks and works exactly as a normal tooth, and does not cause any disturbance to the surrounding teeth — with proper care, it can last a lifetime.

Since their development over forty years ago, dental implants have made a significant impact to dentistry. Modern technologies and dental techniques have increased their accessibility, appearance and quality to make them one of today’s most popular dental procedures.

Missing teeth not only affect a person’s speech, ability to chew but also their appearance and self-esteem. Dental implants are a highly effective form of tooth replacement therapy for a single or many missing teeth. Usually made of titanium which is a strong material and readily accepted by human tissues, a dental implant is an artificial tooth root which is completed in a two stage process. If the tooth is still present but has a crack or permanent discolouration at the front, dental veneers can be applied instead to improve aesthetic.

The process of getting an implant

The first stage will consist of a referral to a specialist. The next stage involves a small incision under a local anaesthetic as the implant is guided into the gum line in a precise position which is pre-determined through examinations and x-rays. Left for a healing period of 3-6 months, the implant develops a natural bond to the jawbone and forms a permanent, solid foundation to support a crown or bridge depending on the number of teeth missing.

The second stage occurs upon the completion of this healing period, after the implant has fused with the jawbone. Then an attachment known as an abutment is secured which forms the base to which the replacement tooth or teeth are fixed. At an external laboratory a crown or bridge is expertly manufactured to fit seamlessly with your teeth and is subsequently secured to the abutment.

Caring for your new implant requires the same diligent oral hygiene that your natural teeth require. However, Creative Edge Dental recommends that scheduling six monthly oral exams and having your teeth professionally cleaned will ensure that your teeth and gums remain in pristine condition.
